The Five Reasons Behind My Personal Blog

There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow men. True nobility lies in being superior to your former self.

Ernest Hemingway

Why Write This Blog?

So what are the reasons behind my goal of writing articles on here at least once a week?

#1 – Accountability

I will be posting my personal goals, beliefs and ideals and know that my closest personal friends will take great pleasure in calling me out when they see I’m not delivering on those items. I also look forward to enjoying lively, (friendly) debates about some of my future posts.

#2 – To Help Others Learn From My Past Mistakes

It’s important to learn from your mistakes. It’s better to learn from the mistakes of others.

Warren Buffett

There are plenty of mistakes that I’ve made that I wish I could take back but I wouldn’t be the man I am today without those setbacks. I hope that in some of my posts, others can find comfort and solace in at least knowing they aren’t alone when they make bonehead decisions that get them in trouble.

#3 – To Become a Better Writer

Journaling is one thing. I journal daily with an inexpensive Pilot Metropolitan Classic Fountain Pen and Lemome A5 notebook. It’s a great habit that I highly recommend for both productivity and mental health improvements. It’s helped me understand my thoughts and develop a path forward with much greater clarity.

However, putting your words online in the public domain to be viewed and critiqued is something different. I’m not a writer by profession and didn’t study journalism at The University of Florida. I’m a Materials Science Engineer by education and worked in sales for most of my career so I definitely need the practice.

#4 – Personal Branding

Of course, some of this is in a relatively egoistic attempt to build my online presence. It wouldn’t be authentic of me to pretend otherwise, but this is my attempt to show the world who I am and what I stand for and believe in. I also discuss the things I enjoy doing and where my head is at on certain topics.

#5 – Building Community

Life is all about interacting with people. I enjoy getting feedback from others about their thoughts on the topics that I write about. Part of my hope is that through this site, I’m able to connect with them on a personal level as well and dare I say, build friendships?

I don’t claim to have any answers to what people are going through. I can only speak to my personal experiences about what’s worked for me in the past. I hope that we can share solutions to common problems and talk about the bigger issues that are facing our world today.

Creativity and innovative solutions start with collaboration.

Conclusion

The reasons for my blog are simple:

  • Personal Accountability
  • Help others to learn from my mistakes instead of making them
  • Improving My Writing Skills
  • Personal Branding
  • Building Community
